Workshops Descriptions & Requirements

Workshop Title : EMM Science Data Access Timing: 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM and 12:45 PM – 1:30 PM Workshop Description: The workshop will provide hands-on experience on how to access EMM science products through EMM Science Data Center Website and through the provided APIs. It will also show the functionality available on the SDC website and the different search filters available. Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to bring in their personal laptop to the workshop and have python environment installed. Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual (with limited interactions)

Workshop Title : Working with EMIRS Data Timing: 9:30AM – 10:30 AM & 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM Workshop Description: An introduction to the various EMIRS products which focuses on surface and lower atmosphere observations using infrared bands, a discussion of the calibration process, and some hands-on exercises/projects to help with becoming familiar with using the data products. Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to

  • bring in their personal laptop to the workshop
  • has knowledge of a programming language that lets one read in FITS files, perform image algebra, and display the results

Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual

Workshop Title : Working with EXI Data Timing: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM and 2:00 PM-3:00 PM Workshop Description: An introduction to the various EXI products which focuses on lower atmosphere observations using visible and ultraviolet bands, a discussion of the calibration process, and some hands-on exercises/projects to help with becoming familiar with using the data products. Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to

  • bring in their personal laptop to the workshop
  • has knowledge of a programming language that lets one read in FITS files, perform image algebra, and display the results

Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual

Workshop Title Working with EMUS Data Timing: 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM and 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Workshop Description: An introduction to the various EMUS products which focuses on upper atmosphere observations, including atmospheric escape and the thermosphere/ionosphere region, a discussion of the calibration process, and some hands-on exercises/projects to help with becoming familiar with using the data products. Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to

  • bring in their personal laptop to the workshop
  • has knowledge of a programming language that lets one read in FITS files, perform image algebra, and display the results

Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual (with limited interactions)

Workshop Title : Using JMARS to Access Data from EMM and Other Mars Missions Timing: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Workshop Description: An introduction to using JMARS (jmars.asu.edu) to obtain and visualize EMM data and data from other missions. Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to bring in their personal laptop to the workshop with JMARS software pre-downloaded and registered. Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual (with limited interactions)

Workshop Title : Understanding the Martian Climate and Hope's observations with the Mars Climate Database and Global Climate Modelling Timing: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Workshop Description: The Emirates Mars Mission is providing unprecedented data and image and data on the Martian Atmosphere. To understand these datasets, we can compare them prediction from a numerical Mars Global Climate Model analogous to the one used for weather forecasting and climate change studies on Earth -but adapted to the Martian environment. The aim of this modeling is high: ultimately to build numerical simulators based only on universal equations (fluid mechanics, radiative transfer, etc.) yet able to consistently reproduce all available observations. It is scientifically interesting (and fun) to compare reality with predictions from the virtual planet Mars. We will describe the principles of GCM, describe how to use GCM datasets, and mostly play with GCM outputs as provided through the “Mars Climate Database” tool (http://www-mars.lmd.jussieu.fr), in comparison with EMM images and data. Can we predict and understand what Hope is observing? Requirements for participation: Each participant is required to bring in their personal laptop to the workshop. Participation Planned: In-person in Dubai and Virtual (with limited interactions)
